Tatiana Schlossberg, the granddaughter of former President John F. Kennedy, recently shared her heartbreaking journey with cancer. At just 35 years old, she revealed that she has less than a year to live. This news came shortly after she welcomed her second child, a baby girl, in May 2024. Doctors first noticed something was wrong when her white blood cell count seemed off, leading to a diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia with a rare mutation called Inversion 3.
Schlossberg, who has been married to Dr. George Moran since 2017, expressed her disbelief and fear. She wrote about the overwhelming guilt she felt, knowing that her illness would bring another tragedy to her family. The Kennedy family has already faced numerous losses, including the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and the deaths of her uncle, Bobby Kennedy, and her brother, John F. Kennedy Jr.
Despite undergoing several clinical trials and two transplants, Schlossberg was told that her doctors could only keep her alive for about a year. She spent time reflecting on her life, her family, and the memories she would leave behind. She worried about her two young children growing up without their mother and the impact this would have on them.
Schlossberg also touched on her family's dismay over her cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr. 's actions as Secretary of Health and Human Services. She highlighted how his decisions have affected research and funding for critical health initiatives, including mRNA vaccines and the National Institutes of Health.
In her essay, Schlossberg focused on the importance of living in the moment and creating lasting memories with her loved ones. She described her husband as a kind, funny, and handsome genius, and expressed her gratitude for the time they have had together. Despite the pain and uncertainty, she tries to fill her days with love and memories that she hopes will stay with her forever.
