Recently, ABC News agreed to pay a whopping $15 million to Donald Trump's future presidential foundation and museum. This is part of a settlement for a defamation lawsuit that Trump filed against the network. The lawsuit stemmed from comments made by their star anchor, George Stephanopoulos, during an interview with Nancy Mace, a U. S. House representative from South Carolina. In March, Stephanopoulos said that Trump, who had been elected president, was found "liable for rape. " This statement was controversial because, although Trump was found liable for sexual abuse in a civil case involving writer E. Jean Carroll, he was not found liable for rape. The jury ordered him to pay more than $88 million, but he is appealing the decision. ABC News will also add an editor's note to their online article from March, expressing regret for Stephanopoulos' remarks. They will pay an additional $1 million to cover Trump's legal fees. Trump has been a vocal critic of mainstream media, often referring to them as "fake news. " He has several other ongoing legal battles, including suits against CBS News, journalist Bob Woodward, publisher Simon & Schuster, and an appeal against CNN. Despite these lawsuits, he has had varied success, previously losing a defamation suit against The New York Times.
