Students at Princeton High School are using AI for homework and test prep. This has become a common practice. The school board is now talking about how to teach students about AI's effects. They want to help students understand both the good and bad sides of AI.
Ash Mieman, a student leader, said many students feel pressured to use AI. They think they need to keep up with others. Mieman believes the school should teach students about AI's impact on learning and the environment. He suggested that teachers start discussions about AI in class. This way, students can decide for themselves how to use AI.
Kimberly Tew, the Assistant Superintendent, said teachers are aware of AI use. They use AI checkers to detect AI-generated work. Tew mentioned plans to hold class meetings about AI. The goal is to help students think critically and understand what's real and what's not.
Tew also suggested using peer groups to teach freshmen about AI. Mieman, who is a peer leader, said they are already working on an AI outreach plan. This plan aims to educate younger students about AI.
Michael LaSusa, the school superintendent, noted that the school has been discussing AI, screen use, and cell phones. He said there are no easy answers. He also mentioned that grading homework has become more difficult because of AI.
