Alamosa High School's football team, the Mean Moose, put on a show against Salida, even if their shutout streak came to an end. The final score was 50-13, a clear win for Alamosa. The game was a mix of strong plays and some mistakes, but in the end, Alamosa came out on top.
The Mean Moose started strong, scoring on their first possession. Tony Griego ran 46 yards for a touchdown, and A. J. Baker added a two-point conversion. Alamosa's defense also played well, forcing Salida to punt on their first drive.
In the second quarter, Alamosa extended their lead. Baker ran 82 yards, setting up Griego's 2-yard touchdown run. Baker then added another two-point conversion. The Mean Moose didn't stop there. Jo David scored on a 1-yard run, and Christian Hernandez kicked the extra point. Before halftime, Griego threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Nelson Arambula, making the score 30-0.
The second half saw more points for Alamosa. Evan Anderson returned a kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown. Then, Alejandro Vialpando intercepted a pass and ran 34 yards for another touchdown. The extra point was missed, but Alamosa led 43-0.
Salida finally got on the board with a 37-yard touchdown pass from Eli Schwarz to Ayden Wells. But Alamosa answered back with a touchdown run by Zavier Maez. Salida scored one more time, but it wasn't enough to catch up.
Alamosa's offense was strong, with 387 total yards. Griego completed five of nine passes for 84 yards, and Anderson completed his only attempt for 38 yards. Baker led the rushing attack with 133 yards on five carries.
Salida had 214 total yards, with Schwarz completing seven of 12 passes for 103 yards. Wells was the leading receiver with two catches for 68 yards.
The Mean Moose have a big game coming up against Pagosa Springs. The Intermountain League championship and a spot in the Class 2A state playoffs are on the line. Coach Drew Sandlin is looking forward to the challenge.
