Alamosa High School's wrestling team kicked off their season with a strong victory against Brush, the defending state champions. The Mean Moose dominated the match, winning almost every bout. This win is a great start, but it's important to remember that Brush was still getting back into the swing of things after football season. The team showed off their skills early on. Julian Naranjo won his match with a major decision. Jeremiah DeLaCerda and Jonovan Gutierrez both won by technical fall, showing their strength and control. Anthony Meder made it look easy, pinning his opponent in just 51 seconds. The Martinez brothers, Uriah and Daniel, both won by pin. They showed why they are key players for the team. Elijah Salazar also won by forfeit, giving the team an easy point. Tony Griego and Caleb Quintana added to the team's lead with their own pins. Brush finally got on the board with a win at 175 pounds. But Alamosa didn't let that stop them. They kept their momentum going, with Jovanny Mendoza, Max Dokson, and Aaron Jordan all securing wins. Dokson's technical fall was impressive, showing off his skills. Coach Rusty Johnson was happy with the team's performance but knows there's still room for improvement. They have a busy schedule ahead, including a tournament in Rocky Ford and a big test at the Montrose Tournament. With their strong start, the team is looking good for the rest of the season.
