Alec Baldwin has stepped into the spotlight again, this time to support animal activists who are against Radio City Music Hall's use of live animals in their Christmas Spectacular show. The actor, known for his role in "30 Rock, " has teamed up with PETA to create a new TV ad that will air on Canada's CTV. In the ad, Baldwin argues that the show's use of sheep, camels, and donkeys is cruel and stressful for the animals. The animals are transported, kept in a basement for months, and exposed to the bright lights and loud sounds of the stage production. Baldwin believes that animals should not be used as actors or props. PETA protesters also demonstrated outside the show, holding signs that called for an end to animal cruelty. However, MSG Entertainment, which owns Radio City Music Hall, disagrees. They claim that the animals come from an upstate sanctuary and are regularly checked by health and agriculture inspectors. They also argue that the animals receive exceptional care throughout the show's run. But activists are not convinced. They believe that after 91 years, it's time to stop using live animals in the show. PETA is also urging sponsors like Chase, Lexus, and Verizon to stop supporting the show until it ends the use of live animals. Over 30, 000 people have signed a petition on PETA's website to ban live animal use from the show. Similar efforts have been made to curb the use of live animals in other large-scale New York City events. Edita Birnkrant, executive director of NYCLASS, argues that the use of live animals in the show is unnecessary and cruel. She believes that the true spirit of Christmas is about peace and compassion, not exploiting animals for entertainment. The debate continues, with activists pushing for change and the show's owners defending their practices.
