Alex Jones, a well-known conspiracy theorist, is trying to keep his personal social media accounts out of the upcoming auction of his Infowars media platform. This is because he owes over $1 billion to the families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims. Jones feels that selling his social media accounts would violate his privacy and make it difficult for him to start fresh after declaring bankruptcy.
The trustee in charge of liquidating Infowars and its parent company, Free Speech Systems, wants to include Jones' social media accounts in the auction scheduled for November and December. The trustee believes these accounts are valuable assets since they are used to promote Infowars content and have many followers. Jones' X account alone has nearly 3 million followers.
A federal judge in Houston is considering the matter but has delayed a decision for at least a week. The judge wants to ensure that potential buyers understand exactly what they are purchasing to avoid any future legal issues.
The trustee is also looking to sell the rights to Jones' book, "The Great Reset: And the War for the World, " and his video game, "Alex Jones NWO Wars. " The video game features Jones as the main character in a shooting game.
Jones' lawyers argue that the social media accounts belong to him personally and cannot be sold as part of Infowars' assets. They warn that selling these accounts could lead to legal disputes over ownership. The trustee, however, sees these accounts as valuable assets that could draw multiple interested buyers.
