A gallery in Old Greenwich is hosting its second annual art show. This event is not just about displaying art. It is also about supporting local kids' access to arts programs. The show, called "Art Today-Futures Tomorrow, " will open on Oct. 25. It will feature a mix of famous and local artists. The gallery, ART06870, opened in 2023 with a mission to give back to the community.
Last year, the gallery's first show funded 10 workshops for kids. These workshops were led by professional artists. They took place at the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich, local schools, museums, and other galleries. This year, the proceeds will support visual arts, theater, and music programs. The goal is to provide free private music lessons for under-resourced students in grades 4-12.
The exhibition is a collaboration with the Greenwich Alliance for Education (GAE). It is also supported by the Developing Artist Program. This program receives grants from various organizations, including the Greenwich Alliance, Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, Connecticut Office of the Arts (COA), and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).
Art is connected to everything, from culture to history. Having access to the arts, especially at a young age, can be powerful. It expands the world and creates a rich, expansive view. In today's digital world, physically creating something is different from just playing on a computer. Making something with your hands can relieve stress and give a sense of accomplishment.
The community can bid on pieces featured in the exhibition. Bidding will start on Oct. 25. Guests can also stop by the gallery to view and bid on the art in person. For more information, visit ART06870's website.
