Boeing has just wrapped up a massive deal. They sold some of their digital aviation businesses to a private equity firm called Thoma Bravo. The price tag? A whopping $10. 55 billion! This sale includes well-known brands like Jeppesen, ForeFlight, AerData, and OzRunways.
The new company, Jeppesen ForeFlight, is now on its own. It will have offices in Denver and San Francisco. Boeing says this sale will help them focus on their main business: making airplanes. It will also help them reduce debt and strengthen their financial position.
Thoma Bravo is excited about this deal. They think these businesses will do better on their own. They plan to help them grow, innovate, and focus on software and customer service. Boeing's CEO, Kelly Ortberg, said this sale is part of their plan to focus on their core businesses.
Jeppesen ForeFlight will be led by Brad Surak. He used to head Boeing's Digital Aviation Solutions. He's happy about this change. He believes this new setup will allow them to move faster, think bigger, and innovate more.
Boeing is not done selling things. They are also trying to sell their defense subsidiary, Insitu. This company makes small, long-range military drones. Analysts think this sale could bring in between $500 million and $1 billion.
Even though Boeing is selling most of its Digital Aviation Solutions business, they are keeping some parts. These parts focus on fleet maintenance, diagnostics, and repair services. They will also keep their predictive and prognostic maintenance insights. These services help them keep aircraft in good condition and prevent future problems.
