Scientists have found a way to make better electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries. These electrolytes help batteries work well, even in cold weather. They used computer simulations and AI to test 2604 different electrolyte recipes.
The team found that some electrolytes work really well at room temperature. They have high ionic conductivity, which means they let ions move freely. This is important for battery performance.
The study showed that the way lithium ions are surrounded by other molecules affects how well the electrolyte works. Things like solvent concentration, molecule shape, and charge distribution play big roles.
Some molecules, like PF6-, DOL, DME, EA, and DMC, help make electrolytes less sticky. This makes it easier for ions to move around. Other molecules, like TFSI-, DEC, and EMC, do the opposite.
The team also found that certain traits, like HallKierAlpha and MaxPartialCharge, can help predict which electrolytes will work best. This makes it easier to find good electrolytes without testing every single one.
By using computer simulations and AI, scientists can now find better electrolytes faster. This could lead to better batteries for all kinds of devices.
