Hampton Roads is in for a cold snap. The National Weather Service has put out a freeze warning. It covers a big area. This includes parts of Virginia and North Carolina. The coldest part of the night will be away from the coast.
Temperatures will drop fast. They will start to fall around 5 p. m. on Monday. By 6 a. m. Tuesday, it could be freezing. But it will feel even colder because of the wind. The wind chill could make it feel like it's in the low 20s. By Tuesday afternoon, things will warm up a bit. But it will still be chilly.
There's also a small chance of snow. It could happen between 9 p. m. Monday and 5 a. m. Tuesday. But don't expect any snow to stick around. The warm weather on Sunday will make sure of that.
The cold front moved through on Sunday night. It brought cooler air with it. This is normal for this time of year. The coldest part will be early in the week. Then, things will start to warm up.
But it's not just the cold to worry about. There's also a gale warning. This is for the Atlantic coast, Currituck Sound, and the Chesapeake Bay. Winds could get up to 35-40 knots. Waves could be as high as 7-9 feet. This will make for rough seas.
The cold weather is expected to stick around. But it should start to get better later in the week. By then, things will be back to normal for this time of year.
