The Red Sox have made a big splash by signing Alex Bregman to a three-year contract. This move means Bregman will be wearing the number 2 jersey, a number that has been worn by some of the team's legends. The team had to make some room for Bregman, so they moved left-handed pitcher Patrick Sandoval to the 60-day injured list. Sandoval had Tommy John surgery last June, so this move was expected. He was already set to miss the first half of the 2025 season. Sandoval had a 4. 01 ERA across 107 career appearances, but his 2024 season was rough with a 5. 08 ERA in 16 starts. However, his FIP (3. 87) suggests he pitched better than his ERA shows. The Red Sox are hoping his ability to miss bats will be useful later in the 2025 season or in 2026. The Red Sox will introduce Bregman to the public at a press conference on Sunday. Bregman is a two-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion. He spent nine seasons with the Houston Astros. The press conference will be aired live on NESN at 8:30 a. m. ET.
