Three brothers from Scotland have achieved something amazing. They rowed across the Pacific Ocean in just 139 days. This is a new world record for the fastest unsupported row from South America to Australia. The brothers, Jamie, Ewan, and Lachlan Maclean, started their journey in Peru and ended in Cairns, Australia. They rowed over 9, 000 miles without any stops.
The journey was not easy. They faced storms, seasickness, and even injuries. One storm was so strong that it swept Lachlan overboard. Despite these challenges, they raised over £700, 000 for clean water projects. Their goal is to raise £1 million to help people in Madagascar.
When they arrived in Australia, they were greeted by over 50 supporters, including their mother. They played the bagpipes and waved flags from Scotland, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Before arriving, the eldest brother, Ewan, called the marina to ask if they had pizza and beer ready. He said the journey was the hardest thing he had ever done.
The middle brother, Jamie, mentioned that they almost ran out of food towards the end. The experience changed their perspective on life. They plan to continue fundraising through their charity, the Maclean Foundation. The previous record was 160 days, set by a Russian rower in 2014.
This achievement shows the power of teamwork and determination. The brothers' effort will help provide clean water to 40, 000 people in Madagascar. Their story inspires us to push our limits and make a difference in the world.
