Cheap and Easy Staining Tricks for Cell Images

Scientists use a simple way to see where proteins are inside cells. The method lets researchers watch each cell and keep the cells looking natural. It works for one protein or many at the same time.

The cells are grown on cheap glass slides that sit in normal 24‑well plates. No special plates are needed. The cells stay flat and easy to see.

To stain several proteins together, they use antibodies made in different animals so they don’t mix up. Each antibody gets a different color that glows under the microscope. They also run checks like no primary, no antibody, single dye only, and overlap tests to make sure the colors don’t bleed.

They keep the liquid tiny, so they use less chemicals and antibodies but still get strong signals. Any regular widefield or confocal microscope can read the slides. If researchers try other cells or new antibodies, they must test the fix, the permeabilization, pick the right colors, and make sure the microscope can handle them.
