Chile is about to pick a new leader, and the choices are quite extreme. There are eight people running, but three are way ahead in the race. One is a communist, and the other two are super conservative. The country is dealing with a lot of crime and people moving in from other countries, so voters are looking for big changes. The communist candidate, Jeannette Jara, is leading in the polls. She used to work for the current president, but she's trying to distance herself from him because he's not very popular. Jara wants to help workers, raise the minimum wage, and build more prisons. She's also talking about using better technology to control the borders. Then there's José Antonio Kast, a far-right politician who wants to close the borders and kick out people who came into the country illegally. He's against abortion, same-sex marriage, and immigration. Some people compare him to Donald Trump. There's also talk about his dad being part of the Nazi party, but Kast says that's not true. But wait, there's more! Another far-right candidate, Johannes Kaiser, is also in the mix. He's a YouTuber turned politician who wants to cut government spending and punish criminals really hard. He even suggested sending criminal immigrants to a notorious prison in El Salvador. Kaiser says his ideas are even more extreme than Kast's. Crime is a huge issue in Chile. More and more people are getting hurt or robbed. All the candidates say they'll crack down on crime, but no one knows which plan will work best. If no one wins more than half the votes on Sunday, the top two candidates will face off again in December. Some people think the country is moving to the right because the current president hasn't done enough to make people feel safe. It's anyone's guess who will win, but one thing is for sure: Chile is in for a big change.
