Across the country, six states are getting ready for a cold snap. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued warnings about freezing temperatures. These states include Arizona, Kansas, Nebraska, Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico.
The sudden cold could cause problems. Crops and plants might get damaged. Outdoor pipes could freeze and burst. Drivers need to be extra careful. Roads might get icy, especially bridges and overpasses.
The coldest temperatures are expected overnight. Some areas could drop to as low as 20 degrees. This is the first frost of the season for some places.
In Arizona, the eastern part of Cochise County and the Upper Gila River Valley will see temperatures between 30 and 34 degrees. Kansas will have temperatures as low as 24 degrees in some areas. Nebraska will see temperatures as low as 24 degrees in central, east central, and south central parts.
Texas will have temperatures as low as 20 degrees in some areas. Oklahoma will have temperatures as low as 20 degrees in the Panhandle. New Mexico will have temperatures as low as 28 degrees in the Middle Rio Grande Valley and Upper Tularosa Valley.
The NWS is advising people to take precautions. Protect plants from the cold. Bundle up before going outside. Don't forget about pets. Make sure they have a warm place to stay.
The NWS is also warning about dense fog in some areas. This could make driving conditions difficult. People should keep an eye on local weather alerts. More frost or freeze warnings might be issued in the coming days.
Homeowners and farmers should take steps to protect their property. Drain irrigation systems to prevent damage. Keep pets and livestock safe from the cold.
