The DC area is bracing for a cold and windy start to December. Wind chills will drop to the 20s in the morning and hover in the 30s during the afternoon on Monday. As the day turns into night, light snow might make an appearance.
Some parts of Virginia and Maryland could see a bit of snow, but in DC, it's more likely to be slush and ice. The weather is expected to bring about half an inch of liquid precipitation, mostly in the form of cold rain. This rain is expected to taper off after lunchtime on Tuesday.
Winter weather advisories are in effect from 1 a. m. until 1 p. m. Tuesday for Frederick County in Maryland, and Loudoun, Fauquier, and Culpeper counties in Virginia. These areas could see some ice and snow accumulation, leading to slippery roads.
In DC, light snow might start around 2 or 3 a. m. on Tuesday, but it will likely turn into sleet and then cold rain by 6 a. m. While it's not expected to be a major snowstorm, it could still make driving conditions tricky on Tuesday morning.
The rest of the week looks dry with some sunshine, but temperatures will be cooler than usual. It's a good idea to bundle up and be cautious on the roads.
