City Water Park to Reboot: A New Splash Ahead

San Jose, CA, USA,Mon Jun 15 2026
The city of San Jose has announced that the 23‑acre water park next to Lake Cunningham will close for a while. A new operator, Lakeside Partners, is set to upgrade the place so it can offer newer slides and more interactive play areas. The exact length of the break isn’t known yet, but plans are underway to bring it back in the next summer season. The mayor said that for over forty years this park has been a spot where families escape the heat. Even though it will be shut for now, the city promises to make it a top‑tier aquatic spot that future generations will love. While the water park is closed, the rest of the 50‑acre Lake Cunningham Regional Park will stay open. Activities like skateboarding and biking at Action Sports Park, the biggest in California, will still be available.
A council member who grew up enjoying the park shared that he feels sad about the temporary stop but is excited to see a fresh, modern version of the space. He also highlighted upcoming community events that will keep the area lively for residents. This isn’t the first time the park has closed abruptly. The original Raging Waters opened in 1985 and had many slides, a huge wave pool, and a long river ride. In late summer 2023 the park closed for the season and was not expected to reopen in 2024. The former owners, Palace Entertainment, said they ended the lease because not enough people came.
