Coinbase Expands to Canada With All-in One Financial Platform

Coinbase is moving beyond just crypto trading into a full financial hub for Canadians. The company calls this new model the "Everything Exchange." It would let users trade crypto, stocks, ETFs, and even bet on real-world events all from one account. CEO Eric Richmond sees this as the next big step after starting as a pure crypto exchange.

The push began early. In April 2024, Coinbase became the first international crypto exchange registered in Canada. Now they're building toward a phase-two strategy called the Everything Exchange. Work with Canadian regulators started back then and continues today. In the United States, the project is already moving fast. Stock and ETF trading opened in February 2026, and prediction markets launched in January through partner Kalshi.

The roadmap aims for around ten thousand stocks and ETFs on a single platform. Tokenized stocks—crypto versions of regular company shares—are also slated for non-U.S. customers soon. While competitors like Robinhood exist, Richmond thinks the value proposition is clear. Banks close late, markets close late, and settlement times vary. Access to advanced products is often limited to wealthy clients. The team believes this gap creates opportunity rather than threat. This shift could reshape how Canadians approach investing.
