McNeese State University's men's basketball team is making waves beyond their home court. The team, known as the Cowboys, has secured a spot in the national spotlight with two games scheduled to air on CBS Sports Network. This is a big deal for the team and the university, as it showcases their talent and hard work to a wider audience. The Cowboys are no strangers to the national stage. Last season, they made appearances on national television five times, including their two NCAA tournament games. This season, they have the chance to match that number if they make it to the Southland Conference title game for the third straight year. The first game on CBS Sports Network will be against their rivals, Lamar, on January 2. The game is set to tip off at 6 p. m. and will be held at the Townsley Law Center. The second game will be against Nicholls on March 2 at 6:30 p. m. The Cowboys suffered their only Southland loss last season in Thibodaux, so this game is a chance for them to redeem themselves. The exposure from these games is not just beneficial for the team, but also for the university and the local community. It's an opportunity for people outside of Lake Charles to see what the Cowboys are made of and experience the electric atmosphere of Townsley Law Arena. The Cowboys' success on the court has not gone unnoticed. McNeese Athletic Director Heath Schroyer expressed his excitement about the team's national exposure, stating that it's a huge opportunity to showcase the athletic program and enhance the university's brand. First-year head coach Bill Armstrong also shared his thoughts on the matter, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to compete in nationally televised games. He believes it's a great chance for people to see the talent of the team and the support of Poke Nation. The Cowboys have a busy schedule ahead of them, with games against Michigan on December 29 and an open exhibition against Grambling this Sunday at 3 p. m. The exhibition game is free to the public, with doors opening 90 minutes before tipoff. In addition to their games on CBS Sports Network, the Cowboys will also have three games in the Cayman Islands at the end of November, which will be streamed on FloCollege Sports. Most of their other contests will be available on ESPN+. The Cowboys' success on the court is a testament to their hard work and dedication. With their national exposure, they have the chance to inspire and motivate young athletes in their community and beyond.
