Cowboys Trade for Tackle to Boost Prescott

The Dallas Cowboys decided to shake up their roster before the upcoming season. They sent a third‑round pick and a sixth‑round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers. In return, Dallas received a fourth‑round selection and offensive tackle Broderick Jones.

Jones entered the league as a first‑round choice. Over his time with Pittsburgh he started thirty‑eight games. However, his play has been uneven. He missed six games last year after hurting his neck and later having spinal fusion surgery. Since joining the NFL he has given up twenty‑two sacks. In 2025 his performance grade was 57.7, placing him near the bottom of the group of qualified tackles.

The Cowboys believe a new environment could help Jones find steadier form. They think adding another blocker in front of Dak Prescott will give the quarterback more time to work. Prescott has said he needs more support around him, and the team hopes Jones can provide that.

Pittsburgh moved on after declining Jones's fifth-year option. They drafted another lineman earlier and saw his preseason snaps shrink. The trade gives Jones a chance to leave the injury-filled chapter behind and try to prove himself with a different team.
