In 2025, the Santa Clarita Valley saw a mix of good and bad news when it comes to crime. Property crimes took a big dip, dropping by over 19%. This is great news for residents. But, violent crimes went up by 8. 78%. That's a concern.
The biggest drop was in larceny thefts. These are crimes where someone takes something that doesn't belong to them, like shoplifting or pickpocketing. The FBI calls these crimes Part-I offenses. Overall, these crimes fell by almost 14%.
But not all news is good. Sexual assaults saw a big increase. This trend is also seen across the county. In 2024, there were 35 reports. So far in 2025, there have been 56. That's more than a 150% jump.
Murders also ticked up. There were two homicides before October. One involved a college student in Newhall, and another involved an 80-year-old woman. Her husband, who is 81, was arrested for the crime. There were three murders in all of 2024.
Robberies stayed the same, with 83 incidents reported for both years. Aggravated assaults dipped slightly by less than 3%. In terms of total violent crime, there were 319 reported from January to September in 2024, and 347 over the same time this year.
On the bright side, property crimes improved across the board. Store thefts, home burglaries, and stolen vehicles all saw a decrease. Burglaries dropped by nearly 23%. There were 461 reported in the first three quarters of 2024 and 356 in 2025.
Larceny reports also fell. There were 231 fewer in the city and 51 fewer in the unincorporated county areas. This decrease is slightly above what Los Angeles is seeing countywide. Grand theft auto reports are down 5% countywide. In the SCV, deputies saw almost an 8. 5% decrease.
