Daniel Jones has officially signed with the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad after being released by the New York Giants. At 27 years old, Jones is eager to learn under head coach Kevin O’Connell and contribute to a team that's on track for the playoffs. The Vikings have a promising quarterback in 2024 first-round pick J. J. McCarthy, who's recovering from a knee injury. However, their current starter, Sam Darnold, is only contracted for the 2024 season. Darnold has been impressive, leading Minnesota to a 9-2 record with a career-high 21 touchdowns. The Vikings also have Nick Mullens and Brett Rypien on their active roster. Jones brings valuable experience to the team, having completed 63. 3% of his passes for 2, 070 yards and eight touchdowns last season. Over his career, he's started 69 games for the Giants, amassing 14, 582 yards and 70 touchdowns. The Vikings only have one quarterback under contract for 2025, McCarthy. This move suggests they're looking for depth and competition at the position. Jones' addition could provide a fresh perspective and push the existing quarterbacks to improve. It's a new chapter for Jones, who's looking to bounce back after a challenging season with the Giants.
