In a sudden move, Israeli soldiers stormed Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, arresting over 240 people, including the hospital director, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) accused them of being part of the Hamas terrorist group. Dr. Safiya, known for his criticism of Israeli actions, wrote opinion pieces for the New York Times, highlighting the struggles of healthcare in the war-torn region. The IDF claimed the hospital was a hideout for terrorists trying to escape bombings. They evacuated 350 patients and staff before the raid. However, Hamas' health ministry reported about 50 people were killed, including medical staff. The IDF said only 19 terrorists died and that the operation was conducted according to international law. Humanitarian groups condemned the raid, saying it shut down the last major hospital in northern Gaza. Dr. Safiya's whereabouts remain unknown, sparking concerns about his safety and the future of healthcare in the region.
