So, you've cooked a delicious Thanksgiving feast and have lots of leftovers. But how long can you safely eat them? According to the U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), you better hurry up. They say Monday, December 2 is the last day to enjoy your fridge-stored leftovers without worrying too much about food poisoning or bacteria growth.
But why this deadline? The USDA explains that after four days in the fridge, the risk of food spoiling increases. So, if you want to extend the life of your turkey and other goodies, pop them in the freezer. They can stay safe and sound there for up to six months.
Here's a tip: whether you're reheating from the fridge or freezer, make sure your food reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit. This temperature is crucial for killing any nasty bugs that might have sneaked in. And for those yummy sauces, soups, and gravies, bring them to a rolling boil before serving.
