A fresh production company, Yume Entertainment, has just emerged, aiming to blend Hollywood and Asian film industries. The brains behind this venture are producers Andrea Bucko and Motoko Kimura, who bring a wealth of experience to the table.
Yume, which translates to \"born from a dream\" in Japanese, is set to back up-and-coming creators. One such talent is Yumiko Fujiwara, known for her drama \"The Fire Outside, \" which made it to the 2021 Black List. Yume's first project is Fujiwara's upcoming film, \"The Red Room, \" inspired by a creepy Japanese internet legend.
\"The Red Room\" tells the story of a disappearance in the late 1990s, triggered by a cursed computer pop-up during a teenage sleepover. Years later, an email from the missing girl brings back the same eerie pop-up, drawing her old friends into a twisted part of the internet and the heart of Japan's most frightening digital myth. CAA Media Finance will manage the film's North American rights.
Yume isn't stopping there. They're also teaming up with U. S. publisher Dark Horse Comics, known for franchises like \"Hellboy\" and \"The Umbrella Academy. \" Additionally, they're developing Japanese intellectual properties with companies like Shogakukan and Gentosha.
Andrea Bucko, an American producer, has worked on notable films like \"Deadman's Wire\" and \"Alpha Gang. \" She's also the co-founder of Raised by Wolves, a development fund and finance company. Motoko Kimura, a Japanese producer, has an impressive resume, including 15 mini-series and 16 features.
\"Yume is where dreams, instinct, and fearless imagination meet the rigor of world-class financing and production, \" said Andrea Bucko. \"We aim to champion storytellers who push against the familiar and speak directly to the visceral human experience. \"
Motoko Kimura added, \"As a Japanese producer working internationally, I want Yume to be a home for bold voices, especially those bridging Asia and Hollywood. \"
