Apple's latest iOS update, version 26. 2, is bringing some changes to how people use their iPhone messages while driving. The update introduces a new setting that lets drivers choose how they see their messages on CarPlay.
Before this update, iOS 26 had already added a feature that pinned important conversations at the top of the Messages app in CarPlay. This was helpful for quickly accessing frequent chats. However, not everyone liked this change. Some drivers preferred the old way, where they could see a simple list of all their conversations.
Now, with iOS 26. 2, drivers can decide for themselves. If they want to keep the pinned conversations, they can. But if they prefer the classic list view, they can turn off the pinned conversations feature. To do this, they just need to open the Settings app on their iPhone, go to CarPlay settings, and toggle off the Pinned Conversations option.
This update is part of a bigger effort to make CarPlay more useful and customizable. iOS 26 has already brought several improvements to CarPlay, including a new design called Liquid Glass, Live Activities, widgets, and a compact view for phone calls. These changes show that Apple is focused on making the driving experience smoother and more connected.
The iOS 26. 2 update is expected to be released to all users in December. This gives drivers a few months to test out the new features and decide which view they prefer for their messages in CarPlay.
