Etihad Airways is boosting its fleet with 13 new Airbus planes. These aircraft are coming from Avolon, a big player in the aviation finance world. The deal was announced at the Dubai Airshow and includes nine A330neo and four A320neo family aircraft. Etihad is also ordering six more A330neos directly from Airbus, making their total A330neo fleet 15 planes.
These new planes are set to arrive in 2027 and 2028. They will help Etihad grow its routes and increase capacity at its Abu Dhabi hub. Currently, Etihad operates 115 aircraft and flies to over 100 destinations worldwide.
Avolon has been a big supporter of the A330neo program since 2014. They have 87 of these planes in their fleet. The A330neo is known for its efficiency, flying up to 8, 100 nautical miles and reducing fuel burn and CO2 emissions by 25% compared to older models.
Andy Cronin, CEO of Avolon, sees this deal as a vote of confidence in the A330neo. He believes it shows the high demand for widebody aircraft. Avolon's large order book allows them to support Etihad's expansion plans. Cronin is excited to partner with a top airline like Etihad as the Middle East grows as an aviation hub.
Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways, values Avolon's support in modernizing their fleet. The new A330neo and A320neo family aircraft will give Etihad the flexibility and efficiency needed for future growth. The A330neo will strengthen their medium-haul network, while the A320neo family will support short-haul expansion and improve connectivity through Abu Dhabi. Neves looks forward to deepening the partnership with Avolon.
