The recent Worlds of Work Career Expo in North Florida brought together students and employers in a unique way. This year, the event was open to the public, not just high schoolers. John Trombetta from Terracon, an engineering firm, was surprised by the quality of the students and the interest from the community. He even interviewed some people with advanced degrees who might fit well with his company.
The Talent Development Council organizes this event. It's a group of education and workforce leaders who want to match local jobs with local people. This year, they included students from more counties, like Liberty, Madison, and Taylor. Corrie Melton, from the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce, said this was the biggest expo yet. Over 130 employers and 200 community members attended.
People came for different reasons. Some wanted to show their kids different career options. Others were looking for new jobs or a change. Many brought resumes, ready to apply. One company, Masonry Inc. , even built a wall to show what they do. This hands-on approach helped both employers and job seekers.
The expo wasn't just about finding jobs. It was about learning and connecting. Students could try different activities and see if they liked them. Employers could watch how people worked and talked. It was a chance for everyone to explore and discover.
The event shows how important it is to connect education and work. By bringing students and employers together, the expo helps people find their path. It also helps companies find the right people. This is a big deal for a community's growth and success.
