A lively event took place where young students got to explore science, tech, art, and engineering through fairy tales. The event was held in a high school gym and cafeteria. It was open to kids from pre-K to sixth grade. There were 21 stations set up, each one designed by college students from Saint Francis University. The stations were all based on fairy tales. Kids could win a $5 voucher for a book fair if they completed at least 10 stations.
More than 215 kids showed up with their families. They were all excited to try out as many stations as possible before the event ended at 8 p. m. One station had kids building a pulley system to save Rapunzel. At another station, kids programmed an electronic mouse to help Cinderella get to the ball. The idea for this event started several years ago. It has been growing ever since. It started at a different school but moved to the high school because it got too big.
The event was made possible by the Penn Cambria Parent-Teacher Organization. They do a lot of fundraising to make sure the event is special for the kids. Community members donated supplies, and high school students volunteered to help out. Some college students also volunteered their time to run the stations. They even dressed up as characters from "Sleeping Beauty" to make it more fun.
Kids were encouraged to dress up in their favorite costumes. Some kids dressed up as Jedi Masters from "Star Wars. " One kid, Gabriel, said he likes the event because it's fun and lets him share fairy tales with others. His brother, Sebastian, was excited about the $5 voucher. He loves to read and hopes to use it to buy a book from the "I Survived" series.
Other kids also enjoyed the event. Lincoln, a 5-year-old, has been talking about it for over a week. His mom said he's excited about the book fair coming up. Nevaeh, a 6-year-old, is starting to learn how to read. Her favorite book is "Time for a Nap. " Odin, another 5-year-old, loved playing with marbles. Bristol, an 8-year-old, has been coming to the event every year. She loves the crafts and interactive games. Her mom said she was excited to come to the event right after school.
