Documentary maker, Michael Moore, has spoken openly about the anger people feel towards health insurance companies after the death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. He didn’t condemn the public’s reaction. Instead, he said this rage has been a long time coming. “After the CEO's killing, people blasted the health insurance industry, ” Moore said in a recent post. He didn’t try to quiet down the anger. In fact, he wanted to fuel it. Moore thinks insurance companies and their leaders are more to blame for health issues than even terrorists.
The alleged shooter, Luigi Mangione, might have been inspired by Moore’s work. In a document found by police, Mangione criticized UnitedHealthcare’s greed. Moore’s 2007 movie “Sicko” also targeted the health insurance industry in the U. S.
“Americans aren’t happy about the brutal crime, ” Moore said. “They’re shouting for change, for fair healthcare. They’re tired of an unfair system. ” He wants lawmakers to ditch the current system and give everyone free healthcare. Mangione, the accused, is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. He allegedly shot CEO Thompson during a business trip to New York City. A McDonald’s employee spotted Mangione and alerted police, ending his five-day run. Now, he’s in jail, facing murder and other charges.
