Fear and Coping in Times of Crisis

World University SettingsWed Aug 12 2026

Female university students have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Many have struggled with fear and anxiety, but what drives these feelings, and how do they cope? Researchers looked at 1000 female students to find out.

The study found that fear of COVID-19 is linked to how students cope with the outbreak. But what's interesting is that physical activity and personal experiences with the virus can change this relationship. Students who were more active and hadn't had COVID-19 were less likely to be fearful and more likely to cope well.

This suggests that lifestyle habits and personal experiences can shape how we respond to crises like COVID-19. Even after the initial emergency has passed, these factors can continue to influence our emotions and behaviors. So, what can we do to help people cope better in times of crisis? Regular exercise might be a good place to start.
