In a big move against crime, cops and the FBI teamed up to take down violent offenders in South Florida. This effort, called Operation Viper, led to 48 arrests in Palm Beach, Martin, and St. Lucie Counties. The operation, which ran from mid-July to September, also resulted in the seizure of 23 guns. The FBI worked closely with local law enforcement to identify and build cases against violent criminals. This collaboration is crucial because local agencies know their communities best. They put in the hard work to identify and build cases against the most violent offenders. The FBI's role is to support and assist in removing these criminals from the streets. Operation Viper initially started in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, leading to 60 local and five federal arrests, along with the seizure of 21 firearms. Based on this success, the investigation shifted to the northern counties. The FBI assigned special agents, intelligence analysts, and professional staff to work with partner agencies, including the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office and police departments from West Palm Beach, Riviera Beach, and Palm Beach Gardens. The operation focused on neighborhoods with the highest rates of violent crimes, including homicides, nonfatal shootings, and other calls for service. The guns seized were either tied to criminal acts or in the possession of people who were not allowed to own firearms. The FBI's Miami office plans to conduct more operations targeting violent crimes in the coming months. This ongoing effort is aimed at making communities safer by removing violent offenders from the streets.
