Former Mayor Turns Stroke Battles Into Hopeful Guide

DeAndre Windom, who led Highland Park from 2011 to 2015, faced a series of strokes starting in 2019. Instead of stepping back, he turned the ordeal into a mission to lift other survivors.

He has endured five separate strokes, each leaving its mark on his speech. With help from his daughter Bianca Williams and other family members, he now relies on caregivers to communicate, yet his drive stays strong.

Windom recently published a book called "Let’s Go Champ! Winning at Life After Stroke." The guide mixes his personal story with practical tips for patients and their supporters. His sister Tanesha notes that he suffered his fifth stroke while writing the manuscript, deepening its message of perseverance.

Beyond writing, he remains active in real‑estate work and runs the My Brother’s Keeper mentoring program he founded years ago. He plans local book signings soon, and the title is available on Amazon and other online retailers, with contact options through his social media.
