In a turn of events, four Israeli female soldiers were set free by Hamas. This release was part of a ceasefire deal. However, Israel has criticized Hamas, saying they haven't fully met their obligations under the truce. The deal aims to end a long-standing war in Gaza. The freed soldiers, aged between 19 and 20, were held captive since October 2023. Hamas displayed them on stage in Gaza City before handing them over to the Red Cross. Meanwhile, Israeli citizens gathered in Tel Aviv to watch the live broadcast, feeling a mix of emotions. Hamas showed their strength during the handover by waving flags and displaying posters of Israeli leaders with the word "failure. " This seemed like a message to Israel, suggesting their power remains despite the Gaza offensive. Soon after the release, Israel announced that civilians in Gaza wouldn't be allowed to return home as planned. They said this was due to the absence of an Israeli civilian named Arbel Yehud among the released prisoners. Israel claims Yehud is a civilian and should have been freed. A senior source in the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) told the media that Yehud is being held as a soldier, not a civilian. However, there's no evidence to support this claim. Another PIJ source confirmed Yehud is alive. The Israeli military won't allow Gazan civilians to enter the north until Yehud is found or her release process starts. The released soldiers have been reunited with their families, who expressed joy and relief. Preparations were underway at Ofer prison in the West Bank for the release of around 200 Palestinian prisoners as part of the ceasefire deal. Hamas expects Israel to follow through on this part of the agreement.
