Greek Leaders Face Shake‑Up Over Farm Money Scam
Athens, GreeceFri Apr 03 2026
The Greek government is about to change its cabinet after a big farm‑aid fraud case.
A probe started last year showed that many Greek livestock owners made up fake records to get EU money.
State workers and politicians are said to have helped them.
The scandal has already forced several ministers to quit.
The European Union fined Greece heavily because its payment agency misused the money.
Now, a top EU prosecutor wants 11 Greek lawmakers and ministers to lose their legal protection.
They will be investigated for crimes such as fraud, false documents and stealing EU funds in 2021.
The agency that pays out the aid handles more than €2 billion each year.
If the investigations grow, the Prime Minister will announce new cabinet members at 12:30 local time.
The case shows how big the problem of fraud can be when public money is involved.
It also raises questions about checks and balances in government programs.
