In a shocking turn of events, authorities have made several arrests linked to a supposed Halloween terror scheme. The FBI claims to have stopped this ISIS-inspired plan. Three young men from Michigan and two from New Jersey are now facing serious charges.
The Michigan group, including Ayob Nasser, his brother Mohmed Ali, and Majed Mahmoud, are accused of planning a terrorist act. They allegedly bought guns and practiced shooting. They also looked into places to attack, like clubs in Ferndale and an amusement park. The park, later identified as Cedar Point, worked with the FBI to ensure safety.
Meanwhile, in New Jersey, Tomas Kaan Guzel and Milo Sedanet were also arrested. Guzel was caught before he could fly to Istanbul. He is accused of supporting a terrorist group. Sedanet is charged with making threats across state lines.
An NYPD undercover officer kept an eye on Guzel. He was in touch with the Michigan group and others abroad. They talked about attacking the LGBTQ community in Detroit and going to Syria to train with ISIS. Guzel had photos of himself with an ISIS flag and a knife.
Sedanet's charges involve antisemitic messages and buying items like knives and guns. His home and another location in Seattle were searched as part of the investigation.
This case shows how serious the threat of homegrown terrorism can be. It also highlights the importance of vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies.
