Upstate New York is in for a breezy Halloween night. The National Weather Service has warned of strong winds, making it a chilly and wet evening for trick-or-treaters.
Winds are expected to blow at 15-20 mph, with gusts reaching up to 40 mph. These strong winds could knock over branches and power lines, leading to possible power outages. A high wind advisory is in effect from 11 a. m. today until 5 a. m. Saturday.
Trick-or-treaters should be prepared for more than just candy and costumes. They'll need umbrellas and warm clothes. Rain is expected to fall, and temperatures will drop to the mid-40s by sunset. With the wind chill, it will feel even colder, around 35 degrees.
The weather service advises securing outdoor decorations to prevent them from flying away. This is important to keep both the decorations and people safe.
The rain and winds should calm down by Saturday morning. The rest of the weekend will be cloudy with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s.
