Hawks Swap Hunter for Kispert and Hield to Clear Roster

Only three weeks remain before the NBA media days and the start of training camp. The Atlanta Hawks are currently over the allowed 17‑player roster limit. They must cut down to 15 players to be ready for the season. That means making some tough decisions quickly.

The team could use more depth at small forward. They already lost Zaccharie Risacher earlier. New arrivals Lu Dort and Aaron Wiggins are not true small forwards. Corey Kispert has been shaky and may not see many minutes. Ryan Nembhard, Devin Carter and Mouhamed Gueye are also candidates to be moved.

A possible deal could bring De'Andre Hunter back to Atlanta. Sacramento would get Corey Kispert, Buddy Hield, a 2032 second‑round pick and a 2033 second‑round pick. Hunter was a top performer before his last trade and his contract ends next summer. He can add size on the wing and give the Hawks a shooting boost if he finds his rhythm again. The Hawks would free up cap space by getting rid of Kispert and Hield.

The Kings would add draft assets and could waive Hield after the year. They would surround rookie Darius Acuff with more shooting options. Hunter may not stay long in Sacramento, so moving him now makes sense. Atlanta still needs one more roster move, but the trade clears the way for easier decisions.
