The Highland Local Schools Board of Education had a busy meeting on November 24. They talked about new laws that could change how schools get money. Four bills passed by the Ohio Senate might affect the school's budget. These bills deal with property taxes and how much money schools can get from them. The superintendent, Catherine Aukerman, said the district will run some tests to see how these new laws will impact their finances. This is important because it might change when the school asks voters for more money through a levy. In other news, there are some new faces on the school board. John Ross won a seat on the board, keeping the tradition of all board members being Highland alumni. The next meeting will honor Bob Kelly for his 28 years of service. He is stepping down and not running for re-election again. The board also approved several things. They bought new school buses, accepted donations for different school activities, and approved trips for the robotics team and the softball team. They also hired some new staff and said goodbye to a few others. The next meeting is on December 15 at 6 p. m. at Highland High School. It's open to everyone, so the community is encouraged to come and show their support.
