Boys from Hingham pulled off an exciting 6-5 win against Archbishop Williams in the Arrow Sports Holiday Classic final. This was their first win in this tournament after losing last year. Hingham's head coach, Tony Messina, was back on the bench after missing the semifinal due to illness. He was thrilled with the team's spirit but noticed their defense could use some work.
The Harbormen, ranked at the top, played at the Canton Ice House and really turned it on, scoring six goals. This was their best performance of the season! However, they also allowed more goals than the total they had given up in their first three games combined.
Junior forward Cam McKenna was a major part of Hingham's success. He scored two crucial goals, including one on a power play just before the second period ended. Andrew Palek, Robert Dixon, Conal Mulkerrin, and Colin Garrity also found the back of the net for the Harbormen. Palek and Garrity celebrated their first-ever career goals.
Archbishop Williams had their standout player, Finn Kelly, who nearly caused an upset. He scored a couple of key goals late in the third period, putting a scare into Hingham. Kelly was praised by his coach for his incredible ability to protect the puck and make defense work hard. He ended the tournament with a impressive 4-3-7 total and earned a spot on the all-tournament team.
The consolation game had some drama too. A team called Xaverian showed great last-minute skills, winning 3-2 against Braintree with just 1. 2 seconds left. Devin Gosciak scored twice, and Joe Von Handorf got the nail-biting winner for Xaverian.
This exciting day of hockey was a great way to finish the Holiday Classic tournament.
