Hollywood Joins Forces to Fight Antisemitism

Big names in Hollywood are stepping up to tackle antisemitism. The Jewish Federation of Los Angeles has brought together top industry figures to form the Jewish Entertainment Alliance. This group aims to support Jewish creatives who face rising antisemitism. Howard Gordon and Joel Fields, known for their work on hit TV shows, are leading the charge. They are joined by directors Jeremy Kagan and Gregg Simon, and actor Ginnifer Goodwin. Judy Friedman will provide legal advice, and Malina Saval will direct the alliance. Saval is a seasoned journalist who has worked with Variety. The alliance was created in response to growing antisemitism and recent events. One key event was a petition in September with nearly 4, 000 signatures. This petition called for a boycott of Israel-affiliated businesses. The alliance wants to foster solidarity and support for Jewish creatives. Rabbi Noah Farkas, CEO of the Jewish Federation of Los Angeles, emphasized the importance of Jewish contributions to Hollywood. The alliance aims to provide guidance, support, and legal tools to address the challenges faced by Jewish creatives. Other members of the executive committee include Leslie Schapira, Patrick Moss, Stuart Acher, and Dan Signer. The alliance focuses on providing expert-led guidance, a workforce support system, and legal and professional tools. In November 2023, Howard Gordon launched the Entertainment Alliance Against Antisemitism. This group works with writer-producers to combat antisemitism. In September 2023, the Anti-Defamation League formed the Media and Entertainment Institute. This institute engages with Hollywood on issues like antisemitism. The alliance is a response to the need for support and solidarity among Jewish creatives. It aims to create a safer and more inclusive environment for Jewish stories to be told.
