In a recent operation, ICE agents in Houston made a significant impact on public safety. Over six weeks, they arrested 3, 593 individuals with criminal records. These weren't just any criminals; they were child predators, murderers, and gang members. The operation took place during the government shutdown, with many agents working without pay.
The arrests included 67 sex offenders and 51 child predators. Imagine the relief for the community knowing these individuals are off the streets. The operation also targeted 13 murderers, 10 fugitives, and 23 gang members, including those from notorious gangs like MS-13 and Paisas.
But the arrests didn't stop there. Hundreds more were taken into custody for crimes like driving under the influence, aggravated assault, and burglary. Other convictions included aggravated kidnapping, drug offenses, and even human trafficking. The operation showed that ICE is serious about removing dangerous individuals from society.
One notable arrest was Brayan Josue Pineda-Ayala, a 23-year-old MS-13 gang member. He was released into the U. S. earlier this year and allegedly committed a triple homicide. Another was Froilan Mejia Olveram, a convicted rapist who was encountered by agents in 2023 but couldn't be arrested due to enforcement guidelines. He went on to rape and assault a woman the following month.
The operation also targeted fugitives wanted for serious crimes. Among them was Octavio Cruz-Garcia, a five-time-removed criminal alien wanted for homicide. Two Honduran brothers, Elder Antonio Cruz-Hernandez and Yony Roberto Cruz-Hernandez, were also arrested and are pending repatriation to Honduras, where they are wanted for homicide.
ICE Director Bret Bradford emphasized the importance of the operation. He stated that 51 dangerous child predators are no longer free to prey on children, and 10 fugitives have been apprehended. The operation underscores ICE's commitment to removing violent offenders and ensuring justice is served.
