A recent study shows that many Americans, especially Black and Latino people, do not have a good view of President Donald Trump. Only a small number of Black Americans, about 16%, and 30% of Latinos think highly of him. This is despite Trump making some progress with minority voters in the 2024 elections. He won about 15% of Black voters, which is almost double what he got in 2020. For Latino voters, he won between 42% and 48%, depending on the survey.
The study also found that many Americans are worried about Trump's power. 56% of people agree that he is a dangerous dictator who needs to be stopped. This is up from 52% in March. On the other hand, 41% of Americans think Trump is a strong leader who should have more power to make America great again. This view is mostly held by Republicans, with 82% agreeing with this statement.
When it comes to how the country is doing, most Americans think things are going in the wrong direction. 62% of people feel this way, including 92% of Democrats. Republicans, however, have a more positive view. Similarly, 65% of Americans think the economy and the way the federal government is functioning are heading in the wrong direction. Many also think the same about foreign relations and how the government handles undocumented immigrants.
Americans have different levels of confidence in various institutions. Most people trust the military (73%) and the police (67%). Colleges and universities also have a good amount of trust at 57%. However, fewer than half of Americans trust the Supreme Court (49%), the Department of Justice (47%), organized religion (44%), ICE (42%), the federal government (41%), news organizations (38%), and large corporations (34%).
This study shows that Americans have mixed feelings about their leaders and the direction of their country. It highlights the divide in opinions among different groups of people.
