The United States has issued a stern warning to Iran at the UN Security Council. They cautioned that there will be "severe consequences" if Iran carries out more attacks against Israel or U. S. personnel in the Middle East. This warning comes after Israel retaliated against Iran's recent missile attack with a strike on Iranian missile factories. In the meeting, the U. S. Ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, emphasized that the U. S. is not looking to escalate the situation further. She hopes the exchange of fire between Israel and Iran will come to an end. Iran's UN Ambassador, Amir Saied Iravani, defended his country's right to respond to aggression at a time of its choosing. Israel's UN Ambassador, Danny Danon, urged the Security Council to impose heavy sanctions on Iran to prevent them from developing nuclear capabilities. He described Israel's strikes as measured and proportionate and assured that Israel does not seek war. China's UN Ambassador, Fu Cong, called for an immediate ceasefire and de-escalation of fighting in the region. Russia's UN Ambassador, Vassily Nebenzia, criticized the U. S. for backing Israel's use of force. The UK's UN Ambassador, Barbara Woodward, urged all sides to show restraint to prevent further violence.
