Iran and the US: A Standoff in Words

Iran's top diplomat has called out the US for not being serious about fair talks. This comes after the US president suggested opening discussions. But Iran says the US is not ready for real, equal talks. Things got tense after Israel attacked Iran in June. The US also hit Iranian nuclear sites. Since then, no one has been able to restart talks about Iran's nuclear program. The US, Europe, and Israel think Iran is secretly trying to make nuclear weapons. They say Iran uses its nuclear program as a cover. But Iran says it's all for peaceful energy. Before the 12-day war, Iran and the US had five rounds of indirect talks. But they hit a wall over Iran's uranium enrichment. The US wants Iran to stop, but Iran won't budge. Iran's foreign minister said the US won't get through talks what it couldn't get through war. He said Iran is ready to talk, but not if the US is just trying to dictate terms. At the same event, another Iranian official accused the US of using talks as a trick. He said the US is just trying to get what it wanted during the war.
