All's Fair, the new Hulu series, has been a hot topic lately. It's a show about a group of women who work at a divorce firm. Big names like Kim Kardashian, Naomi Watts, and Glenn Close star in it. The show has a lot of glitz and glamour, but does it have substance?
First off, the acting is a mixed bag. Kim Kardashian's performance is notably stiff. She delivers every line with the same flat tone, even when her character is supposed to be emotional. The dialogue isn't much better. Lines like "You want to know my secret for staying young? Keeping up with all of you" from Glenn Close feel forced and cheesy.
The show also tries to mix female empowerment with materialism, which can come off as a bit insulting. But let's be real, this show isn't trying to be deep. It's more like comfort food for your eyes. It's the kind of show you watch in your pajamas with a pizza, not something you analyze too closely.
Some parts of the show are genuinely funny. Like when they compare anal beads to a traffic cone in a divorce settlement meeting. Or when Sarah Paulson's character goes full maniac mode. Jessica Simpson's storyline about botched plastic surgery is also interesting.
But the show isn't perfect. The plot can be absurd at times, like when they talk about filler injections around the vagina. And the weekly release schedule doesn't help. This show is best binged in one go, not watched bit by bit.
In the end, All's Fair is a guilty pleasure. It's not high art, but it's entertaining in its own way. It's like junk food for your brain. You wouldn't eat it every day, but it's fun to indulge once in a while.
