A recent check by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) revealed that a wall put up by the Israeli military goes beyond the Blue Line. This line is the unofficial border between Lebanon and Israel, including the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
The wall, made of concrete and shaped like a T, covers around 4, 000 square meters of Lebanese land. This means people living there can't use this part of their own country. Another wall is also being built southeast of the town of Yaroun, and it too crosses the Blue Line.
The United Nations said this is against Security Council resolution 1701. This resolution is supposed to keep peace between Lebanon and Israel. The U. N. asked Israel to take down the wall.
But Israel says the wall is part of a bigger plan to secure its northern border. They started building it in 2022. An Israeli military spokesperson said the wall is necessary because of lessons learned from past conflicts.
UNIFIL has been around since 1978. It has more than 10, 000 troops from 50 countries. These troops work to keep peace between Lebanon and Israel.
This situation shows how complicated borders can be. It also shows how important it is for countries to follow international agreements.
