Kansas Wins Top High‑School Star
Kansas, Lawrence, USAWed Apr 29 2026
The 2026 class’s leading recruit, Tyran Stokes, has chosen the University of Kansas.
Standing 6‑foot‑7 and a five‑star forward from Rainier Beach in Washington, Stokes turned down offers from Kentucky, Oregon and several other schools before signing with Coach Bill Self.
Kansas now has five top‑five commitments for the year, joining four‑star guard Tay Kinney, forward Davion Adkins, small forward Trent Perry and shooting guard Luke Barnett.
In a chat with Rivals, Stokes said Coach Self’s early confidence made the decision easy. “He believed I could be the best player ever, ” he recalled, noting how that trust helped him feel at home on campus.
Experts point out Stokes’ size, athleticism and versatility give him a solid foundation for the college game. Yet he still has areas to refine, such as consistent decision‑making and maintaining a high motor. With the 2026 cohort lacking some of the star power seen in previous years, many players—including Stokes—must grow further to reach their peak.
The Jayhawks’ coaching staff sees a clear path for Stokes, envisioning him evolving into an alpha presence on both ends of the floor. The program’s commitment to development aligns with his potential, setting the stage for a promising partnership.
