Kids Explored Science at Pop-Up Museum This Weekend

Kids in Santa Clarita got a chance to dive into science this past weekend. The LEAP Children's Museum set up shop at the Patios of the Valencia Town Center from August 22-23. It turned a normally empty space into something really exciting for young minds. Children between ages 6 and 12 showed up to play, experiment and discover new things.

This was not their first rodeo though. LEAP has been doing pop-up events for the past few years. They are working hard to make Santa Clarita their permanent home. Previous themes included exploring health and wellness, and imagining future careers in engineering and design. Each event brings them closer to achieving their dream of a lasting museum in the area.

Emily Lytle-Painter served as the primary organizer. She said community support makes all the difference when trying to build something big. All the workshops matched California science standards. That means kids were having real learning experiences while they thought they were just playing.

Councilwoman Marsha McLean stopped by on Saturday. She told everyone she hears from families all the time who want more places for kids to go. The city already gave the group an arts grant to help make this event happen. She thinks a full-time museum would be perfect for the valley.

Boston Scientific jumped in as a big helper for the weekend. They supplied all the materials kids used during the activities. A company spokesperson said they love working with groups that focus on science, technology, engineering, arts and math for young people. It gives their workers a chance to volunteer while helping kids learn.

There is no set date for a permanent museum yet. But the people behind LEAP are hopeful. They believe it could happen in the next few years if enough people get behind the idea.
